Continuing with my real book project, is the title track off of Pat Martino's second album "Strings!". This is a tune that spoke to me very early on as I was beginning to get into jazz. Jazz can be simple and all about groove. There
isn't much more to "Strings" than groove, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. In the recording, they play over the vamp in the intro over a static A7 chord. You might try playing through the form, or even vamping the A section and using the B section as an interlude between soloists. Pat manages to keep it interesting over that vamp, but we can't all play as good as him, so those are just some ideas to help some of us mere mortals out at a jam!
